16 Illegal Guns Taken Off the Streets by Eighth District Officers  During Essence & July 4 Holiday

With more than 400,000 visitors circulating the French Quarter area during the Essence festival and the 4th of July holiday, Eighth District officers confiscated a total of 16 illegal guns and two pellet guns over the weekend.

Today, Mayor Mitch Landrieu and New Orleans Police Department Superintendent Michael Harrison announced proposed changes to the department’s pay and job classification structure, specifically designed to increase the number of officers on the street by addressing long-standing retention issues and to incentivize long-term careers on the force.

NOPD Recovers Stolen USPS Truck, 5 Stolen Vehicles at Chop Shop on Chef Menteur Highway

NOPD detectives recovered a stolen U.S. Postal Service truck, five additional stolen vehicles, two stolen commercial trailers and other stolen items during a search warrant from a suspected "chop-shop" on Chef Menteur Highway.
