NOPD Still Searching for Information in Shooting of Department Commander

The NOPD Force Investigation Team (FIT) is asking for the public’s assistance in identifying and locating the perpetrator(s) responsible for the shooting of a New Orleans Police Department commander.

The incident occurred on October 25, 2015, shortly before 8 p.m. Commander Derek Frick was driving an unmarked, dark blue, 2015 Ford Explorer SUV with a public plate, southbound in the 3500 block of Alvar Street.

The suspect(s), who were driving in the same direction, opened fire on Frick’s unmarked police vehicle with a semi-automatic weapon. The suspect(s) were believed to be driving a tan SUV, possibly a GMC. The vehicle turned west onto Sydney Duplessis into the old Desire Housing Development and fled the scene.

Commander Frick, a 25 year veteran of the department, returned to work at the NOPD in mid-2016.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the NOPD’s Public Integrity Bureau at 504-658-6800. Citizens with information that can help solve crimes are asked to call Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111 or toll-free 1-877-903-STOP.  The Crimestoppers reward offered for information leading to an arrest in this case is $10,000.
