NOPD Investigating Officer-Involved Shooting

One suspect was fatally wounded and another was arrested during an incident in the 10000 block of Curran Boulevard last night (Jan. 24).

NOPD’s Tactical Intelligence Gathering and Enforcement Response (TIGER) unit was preparing to set up surveillance in the Carriage House Apartments on a vehicle suspected of being used during an armed robbery.  Two suspects emerged from the apartment and a brief foot chase ensued.

One of the suspects was armed with a semi-automatic weapon, which he raised at an officer, according to an eyewitness. The officer fired at the armed male, fatally wounding him. The suspect expired on the scene at approximately 5:33 p.m. and the other suspect was apprehended without incident.

The Orleans Parish Coroner's Office will determine the cause of death and identity of the deceased after completing an autopsy. The Public Integrity Bureau Force Investigation Team is in charge of the ongoing investigation. The Independent Police Monitor and federal consent decree monitor were on the scene and are actively monitoring the investigation.

The detective was most recently assigned to the TIGER Unit. He has been reassigned to administrative duty pending the outcome of the investigation, which is standard department procedure.
