The NOPD is requesting assistance from the public in identifying and locating the suspected perpetrator of a hit-and-run crash that occurred on November 17, 2025, in the 2000 block of Leon C. Simon Drive.
At approximately 12:00 p.m. on November 17, a teenaged juvenile was lawfully utilizing a marked pedestrian crosswalk on Leon C. Simon Drive when a small black sedan traveling at a high rate of speed struck the juvenile. The force of the collision caused the victim to be propelled approximately 30 feet from the point of impact onto the neutral ground. The victim sustained multiple serious injuries.
Following the collision, the suspect vehicle stopped approximately one block away at the intersection of Curie Street and Leon C. Simon Drive. After remaining stopped for a brief period, the vehicle then fled the scene without rendering aid or checking on the condition of the injured victim.
Witnesses on scene described the suspect vehicle as a well-maintained black Kia sedan. The vehicle was not displaying a license plate on the rear of the vehicle at the time of the incident. The driver of the vehicle was described as an unknown black male with medium-to-long dreadlocked hair and wearing light-colored sunglasses.
