NOPD Investigating Homicide in First District

The NOPD is investigating a homicide that occurred this evening (January 16, 2026) in the 2300 block of Orleans Avenue and left one person dead and three others injured.

Just after 8:00 p.m., NOPD First District officers responded to the location on a call of a shooting. Upon arrival, they located four subjects – three adult females and one adult male – who had sustained gunshot wounds. The adult male victim was subsequently declared deceased on scene. The remaining victims were transported via EMS to a local hospital where, at last update, two were listed in critical condition and one in stable condition.

Investigators are currently in the process of gathering evidence and information to identify the person(s) responsible for this incident, as well as a motive. No additional details are currently available.

The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office will identify the deceased victim and official cause of death upon completion of autopsy and notification of family.
