NOPD Makes Arrest in Homicide Investigation

The NOPD has arrested a suspect in the January 7, 2025 homicide that occurred at North Galvez Street and Elysian Fields Avenue that claimed the life of a 38-year-old man.

At about 12:10 pm. on the date, Fifth District officers responded to a shooting. Upon arrival they discovered the victim unresponsive suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.  EMS pronounced the victim deceased at the scene.

The Orleans Parish Coroner identified the victim as 38-year-old Geron Elzie.

Through investigation, Homicide Unit detectives identified the perpetrator as Marvin Banks, (Black male DOB: 01/28/1996).  Banks was arrested on Saturday January 11, 2025 in the Seventh District by NOPD's Violent Crime Abatement Investigative Team (VCAIT) along with Louisiana State Police Troop B & LSP's Bureau of Investigations.

Banks has been charged with second degree murder and was booked accordingly into the Orleans Parish Justice Center.
