NOPD Arrests Suspect in Homicide, Shooting Investigations

NOPD Arrests Suspect in Homicide, Shooting Investigations

The NOPD today arrested Adonta M. Hardy (black male, DOB: 08-04 1983), believed to the perpetrator of separate shooting and homicide incidents that occurred on separate dates this month.

The homicide incident occurred on January 17, 2023, in the 900 block of Erato Street, while the shooting occurred on January 4 at the intersection of Tchoupitoulas and Calliope streets.

At about 4:17 a.m. on January 4, NOPD Sixth District officers responded to the intersection of Tchoupitoulas and Calliope streets for a reported shooting. Through investigation, they learned that two individuals had been involved in an altercation when one of the participants produced a firearm, shot the victim and fled. The victim was transported via EMS to a local hospital.

At about 5:29 a.m. on January 17, NOPD Sixth District officers responded to the intersection of Erato and Constance streets, where they located an unknown male who had sustained a gunshot wound. The victim was declared deceased on scene. Official identification of victim and determination of cause of death have not yet been released, pending autopsy results from the Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office.

Through investigation, NOPD Sixth District detectives developed and positively identified Hardy as the perpetrator of the shooting incident and obtained a warrant for his arrest on a charge of second-degree aggravated battery.

Homicide Unit detectives developed and positively identified Hardy as the perpetrator in the homicide incident and obtained an arrest warrant for Hardy on one count of second-degree murder.

As the investigation progressed, Sixth District officers, Homicide Unit detectives and officers from the department’s Violent Offender Warrant Squad located and arrested Hardy without incident. Hardy was booked accordingly on both warrants.

All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
