Vehicle, Driver Sought in NOPD Investigation of Hit-and-Run Fatality

The NOPD is seeking to locate a vehicle and its driver in the ongoing investigation of a hit-and-run traffic fatality that occurred on January 9, 2022 in the 100 block of Bourbon Street.

At about 2:54 a.m., NOPD Eighth District officers responded to the call of a hit-and-run crash with injury in the 100 block of Bourbon Street, with a pedestrian struck. Upon arrival, officers observed New Orleans EMS tending to an unknown black male. The subject was then transported to a local hospital, where he was shortly thereafter pronounced deceased.

During their investigation, NOPD Traffic Fatality Unit detectives determined that the pictured vehicle – believed to be a dark color and tan two-tone SUV, possibly a Ford Expedition, with an unknown license tag – was traveling against the flow of traffic in the 100 block of Bourbon Street and struck the pedestrian victim from behind, dragging the victim for a short distance. The vehicle then turned onto Canal Street and fled the scene.

Anyone with additional information on this incident, the pictured vehicle – which would have front-end damage from this incident –  and/or the vehicle’s driver at the time of this incident is asked to contact NOPD Traffic Fatality Investigator Mike Baldassaro at 504-658-6290 or call anonymously to Crimestoppers of Greater New Orleans at 504-822-1111 or toll-free 1-877-903-STOP.
