Suspects Sought by NOPD in Fourth District Armed Robbery Incident

The NOPD is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying and locating two suspects in the investigation of an armed robbery incident on January 17, 2021 in the Fourth District.

In one reported incident, that occurred at about 8:30 p.m., the victim reported that she and her boyfriend were walking in the downtown area near Canal Street in search of a hotel when they were approached by an unknown black male (pictured at left), who allegedly offered to give the couple a ride to a hotel on Tulane Avenue. The couple accepted and offered to pay the subject, who reportedly led them to his reported gray or burgundy Toyota Tacoma truck. Once there, they were met by a second unknown subject (pictured at right), who joined them in the vehicle. Instead of relocating to the hotel, the driver then reportedly relocated all subjects to the Fourth District, where the victim reportedly withdrew cash from a bank ATM to pay the driver. The subjects then allegedly drove the victims to a dark unknown street, where the driver pretended that the truck had stalled. The victims exited the vehicle, at which time the driver reportedly grabbed the female victim, held an unknown object to her neck and demanded property. The victim reportedly said that she had nothing to give, at which time the driver re-entered the vehicle and fled with the passenger and the victims’ suitcase, which was inside the truck.

Through investigation, Fourth District detectives learned of an incident with similar circumstances that occurred earlier that day at about 4:15 a.m. A male victim also reported being in the French Quarter when approached by two unknown male subjects who offered him a ride back to his hotel. The subjects reportedly instead drove him to the Fourth District, stopping at a convenience store to have the victim purchase items for them. While there, the male victim reported becoming suspicious of the subjects and asked a cashier to call police. At the time officers arrived to meet with the victim, he was seen speaking with two unknown black males, who then left the scene in a vehicle matching the description given in the earlier mentioned incident before officers could speak with them.

The images of the two subjects were captured from the officer’s body-worn camera.

The driver is described as a light-skinned black male with a thin build and dreadlock hairstyle in a ponytail, standing between 5’10” to 5’11” and possibly in his late 20s. He was described as wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt.

The passenger is described as a dark-skinned black male with a medium build and a low-cut hairstyle. The subject stood approximately 6’0” and appeared to be in his 20s or 30s.

Anyone with additional information on these or similar incidents is asked to contact NOPD Fourth District detectives at 504-658-6040 or call anonymously to Crimestoppers of Greater New Orleans at 504-822-1111 or toll-free 1-877-903-STOP.
