On January 26, 2018, members of the NOPD’s Seventh District and Tactical Intelligence Gathering and Enforcement Response (TIGER) Unit arrested Markee Edwards (pictured at left, DOB: 12-19-1996) and Maurice Hicks (pictured at right, DOB: 01-05-1999) in connection with an attempted homicide in the 20 block of Marywood Court on January 24, 2018.

Based on investigation, detectives believe that at about 7:15 p.m., the arrested subjects met with the victim - who was an acquaintance - at the victim’s residence. During the meeting, an argument reportedly occurred where Edwards allegedly shot the victim six times to the body. Edwards and Hicks are then believed to have fled the scene in a stolen Nissan Rogue. The victim was transported to an area hospital via private conveyance with police escort.

As investigation progressed, Seventh District detectives, with the assistance of TIGER Unit officers, were able to positively identify Edwards and Hicks as the perpetrators and obtain arrests warrants. Investigators tracked Edwards and Hicks to a residence in the 10100 block of Curran Boulevard, where the two were apprehended.

During an execution of a search warrant at the residence, detectives discovered a handgun that was later found to have been reported stolen from St. Bernard Parish.

Both Edwards and Hicks were arrested and booked into the Orleans Parish Justice Center for attempted second degree murder. Edwards was additionally booked for illegal possession of a stolen firearm, while Hicks was additionally booked with illegal possession of a stolen vehicle and unauthorized use of a vehicle.

The investigation into this incident is ongoing.
