NOPD Releases Critical Incident Video from February 6 Officer-Involved Shooting Investigation

Pursuant to its critical incident recordings release policy, the NOPD today (February 17, 2025) released to media video footage from the investigation of an officer-involved shooting incident that occurred on February 6, 2025, at the intersection of Poland and North Claiborne avenues.

At about 5:11 p.m. on February 6, NOPD officers spotted a white Kia Optima at the foot of the North Claiborne Avenue bridge at its intersection with Poland Avenue. The vehicle was known to have been stolen during an armed robbery earlier that day in the 300 block of North Prieur Street. The officers exited their vehicles and approached the Optima on foot and provided verbal commands for the occupants of the vehicle to exit.  At that time, the driver of the Optima attempted to drive away, striking other vehicles as it exited the bridge by going over the curb. In doing so, the Optima nearly hit one officer and then collided with a second officer as the Optima fled the scene. Three known officers fired at the vehicle. As this incident involved discharge of officer service weapons, the NOPD Public Integrity Bureau’s Force Investigation Team investigated the incident.

Officer body camera footage of this incident can be viewed at this link.

As a result of this investigation, Juquan Dominick (black male, DOB: 01-10-2005) was developed as a suspect and positively identified by the victim of the armed robbery incident. Dominick was observed in video surveillance after the vehicles were stolen and before the encounter with police utilizing both vehicles. An arrest warrant for Juquan Dominick was then secured by the investigators on multiple charges. Dominick was located and arrested on February 12, 2025.

Pertaining to the incident at Poland and North Claiborne, an arrest warrant was obtained for Dominick for two counts of attempted murder, for which he was subsequently booked.

The NOPD officers who were found to have discharged service firearms in this incident include:

  • Sergeant Louis Faust, a 25-year member of the NOPD.
  • Officer Markus Caldwell, a six-year member of the NOPD.
  • Officer Sean Booth, a two-year member of the NOPD.

Following protocol, the officers were placed on administrative reassignment following their respective firearm discharges. The officers have since been returned to full duty.

All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.

Investigation into this incident is ongoing. Anyone with additional information that can assist is urged to contact NOPD Public Integrity Bureau Force Investigation Team detectives at 504-658-6800.
