NOPD VOWS, U.S. Marshals Arrest Suspect in Investigation of January Homicide

Today (February 3, 2023), the NOPD’s Violent Offender Warrant Squad and U.S. Marshals arrested Tracey Wright (black male, DOB: 10-19-1967) in a January 24 homicide in the 4500 block of Perlita Street.

At about 2:01 p.m., NOPD Third District officers responded to the location and observed an adult male who had sustained a gunshot wound. The victim was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.

On January 25, the Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office positively identified the victim as 51-year-old Ferdinand Alexander and determined preliminary cause of death to be from a gunshot wound.

As investigation into the incident progressed, NOPD Homicide Unit detectives developed and positively identified Wright as the perpetrator. Detectives then obtained an arrest warrant for Wright on one count of second-degree murder.

Today, Wright was located and arrested at a residence in the Fifth District. He will be booked accordingly into the Orleans Parish Justice Center.

All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.

Anyone with additional information on this incident is urged to contact NOPD Homicide Det. Maurice Stewart at 504-658-5300.
