Suspect Arrested for Auto Burglary on Church Street

Officers in the Eighth District arrested Alton Spurlock (DOB: 11/27/47) after he was seen burglarizing a vehicle yesterday (Feb. 5) in the 700 block of Church Street.

At about 12:15 p.m., a witness observed the arrested subject, Spurlock, walking away from a vehicle carrying objects that seem to belong to the witness' co-worker. The witness told police he then yelled and at which time, the subject fled and attempted to hide behind two parked vehicles.

A second witness and the victim gave chase, and saw the subject drop the items, which the victim identified as his tools stored inside his vehicle. The victim and two witnesses detained the subject until police arrived.

Through the course of the investigation, Officer Steve Nolan observed video of the incident that showed Spurlock entering the driver-side door of the victim’s vehicle, removing tools from inside the vehicle and then walking into the garage located nearby with the property. Spurlock then returned to the vehicle and removed more tools from the vehicle’s driver-side tool compartment.

All property was recovered on scene.

Anyone with any additional information on the arrested subject should contact any Eighth District detective at 504-658-6080. Citizens with information that can help solve a crime are asked to call Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111 or toll-free 1-877-903-STOP.
