The NOPD is investigating a fatal shooting that occurred this morning, February 3, 2018 in the 500 block of Saint Maurice Avenue.
Shortly after 3:00 a.m., Fifth District officers responded to a call of shots fired in the area. The call soon after was changed to an aggravated battery by shooting. Upon arrival, officers discovered the unresponsive body of an adult male lying on the ground suffering from an apparent gunshot wound(s) to the body. The victim was transported to an area hospital where he later died as a result of his injuries.
Investigators are currently in the process of gathering evidence and information to identify the person(s) responsible in this incident, as well as a motive.
The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office will release the victim’s name and official cause of death.
