NOPD Investigating Fatal Shooting On St. Charles Avenue

The NOPD is investigating the fatal shooting of a 30-year-old man. The incident occurred today (February 13, 2018), just after 4:30 p.m. in the 2400 block of St. Charles Avenue.

Officer heard gunshots ring out while they were working along the parade route. The officers rushed over to the opposite side of the parade route to investigate when they observed the victim suffering from a gunshots wound to the body. EMS arrived on the scene quickly and transported the victim to a local hospital.

During the course of the investigation, detectives learned the adult male victim was involved in a verbal altercation with another unknown male subject who produced a gun and opened fire.

Officers observed an unknown male subject, believed to have knowledge of the incident. Officers quickly detained him. The person of interest is now in police custody being interviewed.

The victim in this incident later died while at the hospital, at which point NOPD Homicide Unit detectives took over investigation.

Investigators are currently in the process of gathering evidence and information to identify the person(s) responsible for this incident, as well as a motive.
