On December 11, 2024, members of the NOPD’s Violent Offender Warrant Squad and the U.S. Marshals arrested a 15-year-old juvenile black male in the investigation of a homicide that occurred on December 4, 2024, in the 11900 block of Hayne Boulevard.

At about 2:09 p.m., NOPD Seventh District officers responded to a medical call in the 7900 block of Bullard Avenue. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male victim unresponsive inside of a residence. EMS arrived on scene and subsequently declared to victim to be deceased. Further investigation led investigators to determine the subject to be a victim of a homicide.

On December 6, the Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office identified the victim as 18-year-old Jairus Gayden and determined preliminary cause of death to be from gunshot-related injuries.

As investigation into the incident progressed, NOPD Homicide Section detectives developed and positively identified the juvenile male as the perpetrator in this incident and obtained an arrest warrant on one count of second-degree murder. NOPD VOWS and the U.S. Marshals located and arrested the suspect at a residence in the Seventh District, after which he was booked accordingly into the Juvenile Justice Intervention Center.

All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
