The NOPD has arrested a suspect believed to be one of the alleged gunmen in a shooting incident on November 17, 2024 that injured nine innocent bystanders and one suspect.
Arrested is Alex Harris, Black male DOB:1-29-1992. Harris was on parole at the time of the incident and was taken into custody with the assistance of the Louisiana Department of Probation and Parole at their offices on Friday December 13, 2024.
Through investigation, Fifth District detectives determined that Harris was involved in an argument with another individual and the two allegedly opened fire on each other in the 1800 block of Almonaster Avenue during a parade. Nine innocent bystanders were injured. Harris also suffered a non-life-threatening injury.
Harris is currently facing charges of felon in possession of a firearm, illegal discharge of a firearm, reckless discharge of a firearm at a parade. Additional charges are pending.
Immediately after the shooting, investigators arrested Tavi Roach, Black male DOB: 5-22-1988, after NOPD's Violent Crime Abatement Investigative Team (VCAIT) and Louisiana State Police officers traced him to a stolen vehicle seen fleeing the scene. Roach is charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm, theft of a motor vehicle and possession of a stolen auto.
The investigation remains active and ongoing. Additional arrests and charges are expected.
