NOPD Announces Preliminary Crime Statistics for December 8-14, 2024

The following is a weekly report of citywide crime statistics compiled by the NOPD Analytics Unit for the period of December 8-14, 2024.

Notable arrests made

During the listed week, the NOPD also made the following notable arrest(s):

  • On December 9, members of the Louisiana State Police’s Bureau of Investigation and the NOPD's Violent Crime Abatement Investigation Team (VCAIT) located and arrested Ashley Gray (black female, DOB: 10-17-1984) n the NOPD’s ongoing investigation of a homicide that occurred on November 17, 2024, at the intersection of Almonaster and Florida avenues that left two victims dead. Gray was booked on one count of accessory after the fact to second-degree murder.
  • On December 11, the NOPD’s Sex Crime Unit arrested Warren Murphy III (aka DJ Hardhead, black male, DOB: 08-15-1974) on one count of first-degree rape. Murphy surrendered to police and was booked accordingly.
  • On December 11, members of the NOPD’s Violent Offender Warrant Squad and the U.S. Marshals arrested a 15-year-old juvenile black male in the investigation of a homicide that occurred on December 4, 2024, in the 11900 block of Hayne Boulevard. The juvenile was booked on one count of second-degree murder.
  • On December 11, First District detectives arrested Dillon McLendon (black male, DOB: 03-23-2006) and Vondell Johnson (black male, DOB: 02-14-2005) in connection with multiple carjackings and an armed robbery in the First District. McLendon and Johnson were sought in connection with an armed carjacking in the 2500 block of St. Ann Street and an armed robbery in the 3000 block of O'Reilly Street in November of 2024.  They are also charged with an unarmed carjacking in the 2800 block of Lapage Street and an armed carjacking at St. Phillip and N. Dupree Streets earlier in December.
  • On December 12, members of the NOPD’s Violent Offender Warrant Squad and the U.S. Marshals arrested Jeremiah Williams (black male, DOB: 12-25-1999) in its investigation of a homicide that occurred on November 3, 2024, in the 700 block of Tchoupitoulas Street.
  • On December 14, the New Orleans Police Department arrested Gavin Calais (white male, DOB: 10-15-2004) of Arnaudville, LA in connection with the shooting of a 30-year-old man that occurred shortly after 11 p.m. on December 13 in the 1400 block of Girod Street. Calais was booked on charges of attempted second-degree murder and illegal discharge of a firearm.

Gun arrests (arrests made under LA RS 14:95 and sub-items)

Year to date, the NOPD has made 408 arrests for illegal possession of a firearm. This is a 45-percent decrease compared to 743 arrests made during the same period in 2023.

Gun seizures

Additionally, as of December 9, the NOPD in 2024 had seized 2,090 firearms in criminal investigations, a 22-percent decrease compared to 2,692 such seizures made during the same period in 2023.
