Earlier today, the NOPD and its law enforcement partners arrested Curtis J. Gray (black male, DOB: 08-04-2005) in its investigation of a homicide that occurred on November 17, 2024, at the intersection of Almonaster and Florida avenues that left two victims dead.
At about 4:16 p.m. on November 17, NOPD Fifth District officers responded to a reported shooting on the Almonaster Avenue overpass bridge. Upon arrival, officers located two unresponsive male gunshot wound victims. One of the victims was pronounced deceased on scene by New Orleans EMS. The second victim was transported via New Orleans EMS to a local hospital, where later he was pronounced deceased. A third victim reportedly involved in this incident sought treatment at a hospital via private transportation.
On November 19, the Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office identified the victims as 21-year-old Rasean Carter and 19-year-old Malachi Jackson. Preliminary cause of death for both victims was determined to be from gunshot-related injuries.
As investigation into the incident progressed, NOPD Homicide Section detectives aided by the NOPD’s Violent Crime Abatement and Investigative Team developed and positively identified Gray as the perpetrator in this incident. Detectives then obtained a warrant for Gray’s arrest on two counts of second-degree murder.
Today, with the assistance of Louisiana State Police, the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office, the FBI, the ATF and NOPD VCAIT, detectives executed multiple search warrants in Jefferson Parish. During this operation, officers located and arrested Gray at a residence in Jefferson Parish. Gray will be booked in Jefferson Parish as a fugitive on the second-degree murder charge.
All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
