NOPD VOWS, U.S. Marshals Arrest Suspect in Homicide Investigation

On December 1, 2022, the NOPD’s Violent Offender Warrant Squad (VOWS) and the U.S. Marshals arrested Michael Kirton (black male, DOB: 03-29-1978) in the investigation of a homicide that occurred on November 14, 2022, in the 1200 block of North Claiborne Avenue.

At about 12:15 a.m., NOPD First District officers responded to a call of a shooting at the location. Upon arrival, officers located two adult male victims who has sustained gunshot wounds. Both victims were transported via EMS to a local hospital, where one of the male victims was later declared deceased. A third gunshot wound victim – an adult female – arrived via private conveyance to  another local hospital.

Through further investigation, NOPD Homicide Unit detectives developed and positively identified Kirton as the perpetrator in this incident. Detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Kirton on one count of second-degree murder and two counts of attempted second-degree murder.

On December 1, NOPD VOWS and the U.S. Marshals located and arrested Kirton in Avondale, La. He was transported to the Orleans Parish Justice Center and booked accordingly.

All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
