NOPD Investigating Fatal Hit-and-Run Vehicle Crash

Members of the New Orleans Police Department’s Fatality Section are investigating a traffic accident that occurred on December 25, 2021 in the 13800 block of Chef Menteur Highway and left a 74-year-old male dead.

At approximately 6:24 p.m., NOPD Seventh District officers responded to a call of a body lying on the ground of the eastbound lanes of the highway. When officers arrived, they observed the victim had been struck by an unknown make and model vehicle that fled the scene. EMS pronounced the 74-year-old male dead on the scene. The name of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of family members.

The accident remains under investigation. Blood and alcohol tests are pending.  The Orleans Parish Coroner will conduct an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death and will release the identity of the victim.
