NOPD Arrests Suspect on Narcotics, Weapons Charges in Third District

On December 13, 2021, the NOPD arrested Sidney J. Simon (pictured, black male, DOB: 11-12-1984) on narcotics and weapons charges stemming from a traffic stop at the intersection of Chef Menteur Highway and Desire Street.

A Third District officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle at the location due to an observed traffic violation. Upon initiating contact with the driver of the vehicle – identified as Simon –  the officer observed a handgun on the floorboard of the vehicle. A check revealed Simon had an outstanding warrant for second-degree battery from an incident in July 2021 in New Orleans. Simon was detained and a search warrant was obtained for Simon’s vehicle. Execution of the search warrant revealed the following items inside of Simon’s vehicle (pictured):

  • A ballistic armored vest
  • A handgun loaded with ammunition
  • A rifle loaded with ammunition
  • A large bag of green vegetative matter later identified as marijuana
  • A small bag with a white powdery substance later identified as cocaine
  • Multiple items of paraphernalia commonly used in the packaging and distribution of illegal narcotics.

Simon was arrested and booked into the Orleans Parish Justice Center for illegal carrying of weapons while in possession of a CDS, felon in possession of a firearm, unlawful use of body armor, possession of cocaine, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and illegal possession of a stolen firearm, as well on the active warrant for second-degree battery and for a parole violation.
