NOPD Arrests Subject Accused in Third District Homicide

The NOPD has arrested a subject wanted in connection with a homicide that occurred in the Third District.

The incident occurred on November 27, 2021, in the 6200 block of Vermillion Blvd. A 50-year-old female was shot while in her vehicle. An 8-year-old passenger in the vehicle at the time was unharmed.

The NOPD Violent Offenders Warrant Squad (VOWS), St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s deputies, and US Marshals were at a location in St. Tammany Parish when the subject, identified as Freddie Smooth (B/M DOB: 12/30/1990), fled the location.

A vehicle pursuit led officers from Interstate-10 and Gause Blvd. to the 2400 Piety Street where Smooth was apprehended after attempting to flee the vehicle.

Smooth was transported to NOPD headquarters and then to the Orleans Parish Justice Center where he was booked on one count of second-degree murder.
