NOPD Announces Violent Crime Arrests, Clearances Between December 19-25

Listed below are arrests or clearances by warrant obtained between December 19-25, 2021 in violent crime investigations by the NOPD:

Homicide

  • On December 24, NOPD Homicide Unit detectives arrested Juwaine Ashford (pictured, black male, DOB: 11-07-2000) on one count of negligent homicide. The incident occurred on December 24 in the 6000 block of Bullard Avenue.

Shooting

  • On December 19, NOPD First District detectives arrested Amir Jackson (pictured, black male, DOB: 08-09-2002) for attempted second-degree murder, illegal discharge of a firearm and aggravated assault with a firearm. The incident occurred on May 24, 2001 at the intersection of Castiglione and Rosiere streets. Jackson was found to also have been wanted for illegal possession of stolen property incidents reported in August and September of 2020, and on four outstanding warrants out of Jefferson Parish for vehicle burglary.
  • On December 24, NOPD First District detectives arrested Earnicka Jefferson (not pictured, black female, DOB; 07-22-1997) for aggravated battery by shooting. The incident occurred on August 22, 2021 in the 1500 block of Esplanade Avenue.

Armed Robbery

  • On December 19, NOPD Second District officers arrested a 13-year-old juvenile (not pictured), and on December 21, NOPD Second District officers arrested Dequantis D. Ford Sr. (pictured, black male, DOB: 09-30-2002), a 15-year-old juvenile female (not pictured) and a 16-year-old juvenile male (not pictured). The four arrested subjects were booked respectively in connection with the following incidents in the Second and Sixth districts:
    • An attempted carjacking on December 20 in the 4200 block of South Prieur Street (all four suspects)
    • An armed carjacking on December 20 in the 4100 block of Annunciation Street (all four suspects)
    • An attempted armed robbery on December 21 in the 900 block of Cambronne Street (all four suspects)
    • A carjacking on December 21 in the 100 block of Lowerline Street (all four suspects)
    • An auto theft on December 21 in the 7900 block of Freret Street (all four suspects)

The 13-year-old juvenile male was arrested separately for the following incidents:

  • An armed robbery on December 19 in the 500 block of Lowerline Street
  • An attempted armed carjacking on December 19 in the 2400 block of North Johnson Street.
  • An attempted armed carjacking on December 19 in the 1800 block of Franklin Avenue.

Ford was also arrested separately for an armed robbery on December 21 in the 1500 block of Saint Philip Street.
