NOPD Arrests Suspect on Drug, Gun Possession Charges in Seventh District

The NOPD has arrested Eugene Mitchell (DOB: 07-20-2000) after he was found to be in illegal possession of drugs and a firearm on December 4, 2019.

At or about 1:22 p.m., NOPD Seventh District officers investigated a reported illegal carrying of a firearm. After the subject’s vehicle crashed in the 4500 block of Gawain Street, officers who were investigating a separate crime in the area responded to the scene and observed a semi-automatic handgun in the driver’s seat of the vehicle after the subject stepped out to observe the damage to his vehicle. Officers also saw in plain view of the open front driver’s side door three boxes labelled “Tramadol, all containing multiple Tramadol pills in their original aluminum foil packaging.

After a systematic search of the vehicle, officers discovered three boxes containing a total of 112 Tramadol pills, approximately $425 in multiple U.S. denominations and one handgun containing 16 live rounds.

Mitchell was arrested and booked into the Orleans Parish Justice Center for possession of Tramadol with intent to distribute and for illegal carrying of a weapon while in possession of narcotics.
