NOPD VOWS Unit Arrests Suspect in Third District Homicide

The NOPD’s Violent Offender Warrant Squad (VOWS) today (December 13, 2018) arrested Abdul Madison (DOB: 05-18-2000) in connection with the homicide of Melvin Carter on December 6, 2018 at the intersection of Sere and St. Anthony streets.

At about 2:25 a.m., NOPD Third District officers responded to a call of an aggravated battery by shooting in the area. Officers learned that a male victim arrived at an area hospital via private conveyance with an apparent gunshot wound, later found to have allegedly occurred at the aforementioned location. The victim, later identified by the Orleans Parish Coroner's Office as Carter, was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Through investigation, NOPD Homicide Unit detectives developed and positively identified Madison as the perpetrator in this incident and obtained a warrant for his arrest.

Madison was arrested and booked into the Orleans Parish Justice Center for second-degree murder.

Anyone with additional information on this incident is asked to contact NOPD Homicide Detective Thaddeus Williams at 504-658-5300.
