NOPD Investigating Fatal Vehicle Crash on U S Highway 11

The NOPD is investigating a fatal vehicle crash that occurred early Saturday morning (December 2, 2017) on U S Highway 11 bridge flyover.

At about 9:12 a.m., Traffic Unit officers responded to a call of a vehicle accident at the location. Upon arrival, officers discovered a crash involving two vehicles on U S Highway 11 bridge flyover.

According to initial investigation, the male driver of a gray 2010 Toyota Tacoma was traveling northbound with traffic entering on U S Highway 11 Bridge flyover. As the Toyota Tacoma continued onto the bridge, it crossed over into the southbound lane now driving against traffic. Subsequently, it collided head on with the male driver of a gray 2012 Nissan Versa that was traveling southbound with traffic.

The 34-year-old male driver of the Nissan Versa, his seven-month pregnant 29-year-old female passenger and her unborn baby were pronounced dead at the hospital as a result of their injuries. The 44-year-old male driver of the Toyota Tacoma was transported to the NOPD Traffic compound for testing, his female passenger was transported via EMS to an area hospital for treatment.

Blood and alcohol tests are pending and the investigation is ongoing. No further information is available at this time. The Orleans Parish Coroner's Office will determine official cause of death and release the deceased victims’ name, upon completion of autopsy.
