The NOPD Eighth District and Mounted Division teamed up with French Quarter Festivals Incorporated to lead students from Homer Plessy Community School to the Eighth District Police Station in a New Orleans-style secondline.

The event took place on Friday, (Dec. 1) at 12:30 p.m. First, second and third grade students from Homer Plessy School made unique costumes and ornaments to decorate the Eighth District Police Station’s Christmas tree, while interacting with officers and enjoying milk and donuts.

Homer Plessy students also had the opportunity to visit with Santa Claus and McGruff the CrimeDog.

“This event gives the officers a chance to talk to the kids so that the kids learn that the officers are there to help and that they are approachable,” said Eighth District Commander Nicholas Gernon. Students and faculty from Homer Plessy School are grateful to be a part of an amazing community event.
