Two Arrested in Attempted Homicide on Viola Street

The NOPD has arrested Emile Blackburn III (DOB: 02-19-1969) and Emile Blackburn Jr. (DOB: 10-18-1944) in an attempted homicide by shooting that occurred early today (Dec. 28) in the 4700 block of Viola Street.

At about 12:08 a.m., Seventh District officers were dispatched to a call of an aggravated battery by shooting in the area. Upon arrival and investigation, officers learned that the two arrested subjects had supposedly driven to the victim's home in a red pickup truck. Blackburn III then allegedly approached the victim from behind and began firing at the victim, with gunfire striking the victim twice in the back of the head. Blackburn Jr. then allegedly retrieved a baseball bat and began striking the victim in the legs.

The victim was transported to an area hospital for treatment of his injuries.

The suspects were each arrested on scene and were booked into Central Lockup. Emile Blackburn III was charged with one count of attempted second-degree murder, while Emile Blackburn Jr. was charged with aggravated second-degree battery.
