Suspect Identified in Auto Theft at South Solomon and Baudin Streets

The NOPD has obtained an arrest warrant for Darren Montgomery (DOB: 06-22-1997) in relation to an auto theft that occurred on November 30, 2016 at the intersection of South Solomon and Baudin streets.

Just before 8 p.m., Third District officers responded to the location on a call of an auto theft. In speaking with the victim, police learned that the victim drove to the intersection to meet a subject identified as “Dwayne,” who had contacted the victim’s son through an online ad expressing interest in buying an off-road motorcycle. The two met at the intersection, with two other individuals accompanying the subject, when the subject asked to test ride the motorcycle. The victim agreed, only if he were allowed to hold the money during the test ride. The subject gave the victim money and drove the motorcycle westbound on Baudin Street and did not return. The victim said he then examined the money given by the subject, which was significantly less than the agreed upon amount. The victim told police he then gave the money back to the accompanying individuals and pursued the subject, who fled the scene. The victim said the unknown individuals claimed to have no knowledge of the situation.

Through the course of investigation, detectives were able to develop Montgomery as the suspect in the incident.
