Fast-Acting NOPD Officers Arrest Four Suspects in Armed Robbery on Citrus Drive

A quick response by NOPD Seventh District officers led to the arrest of four individuals, including a 16-year-old male, believed to be responsible for an armed robbery reported Wednesday (Dec. 7) in the 4800 block of Citrus Drive.

Just before 8 p.m., police received a call reporting an armed robbery had occurred in the area. The victim told police that he was outside working on his vehicle when he was approached by four unknown males wearing black hooded sweatshirts. He added that two of the subjects were armed with handguns. The subjects then pulled the victim away from his vehicle demanded the victim’s money and cigarettes. The victim did not have any money to give and the subjects fled on foot toward Dwyer Road in possession of the victim’s keys.

Seventh District officers already in the area were alerted to the situation and, while patrolling, spotted individuals matching the suspects’ description walking in the 4900 block of Gabriel Street. The officers, with the assistance of a Louisiana Bureau of Investigation Violent Crime Unit Trooper, set up a perimeter in the area and pursued the subjects on foot.  All four subjects were apprehended by police. A search of the area for the reported weapons used in the incident was unsuccessful.

Arrested in the incident were Demond Smith (DOB: 05-28-1998), Travell Daigle (DOB: 06-09-1988), Jason Glenn (DOB: 08-30-1998) and a 16-year-old juvenile black male.

The three adult suspects were booked into Central Lockup on charges of armed robbery with a gun, while the juvenile suspect was booked into the Youth Studies Center on the same charges.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact Seventh District detectives at 504-658-6070. Citizens with information that can help solve crimes are asked to call Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111 or toll-free at 1-877-903-STOP.
