The NOPD is investigating a homicide reported in the early hours today (August 14, 2026) in the 4200 block of Freret Street, in the Second District.
At about 3:56 a.m., NOPD Second District officers responded to a call of a suicide attempt at the location. Officers arrived at the location and found an unresponsive adult female inside of a residence. The female was declared by EMS to be deceased on scene, and the signal was changed to an unclassified death.
Upon further investigation, the victim was found to have sustained at least one gunshot wound to the body. The signal for the incident was then changed to a homicide, and NOPD Homicide Section assumed control of the investigation.
Investigators are currently in the process of gathering evidence and information to identify the person(s) responsible for this incident, as well as a motive. No arrests have been made as of this writing, and no additional details are currently available.
The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office will identify the deceased victim and determine the official cause of death following notification of family members and completion of an autopsy.
