In July, NOPD recorded the lowest monthly homicide total of 2022.
There were 17 homicides during the month of July compared to 31 in June of 2022. The month-to-month comparison with July of 2021 shows there were 23 homicides in that month.
This is the lowest monthly total since June of 2021 when there were 16 homicides.
Of the 17 homicides that occurred in the month of July, seven of those were cleared by arrest, warrant, or exception
Sixty-Nine of the homicides that occurred in 2022 have been cleared by arrest, warrant, or exception.
The 2022 UCR clearance rate is 44% and the solve rate for 2022 is 48 percent.
The following categories showed decreases during the month of July. These numbers are year-to-date comparisons through the end of July.
- Aggravated battery is down 3%
- Non-fatal shootings are down 12%
- Aggravated assault/damage is down 14%
- Aggravated rape is down 13%
- Robberies are down 17%
- Auto theft is down 6%
- Homicide is up 38 %
- Armed robbery up 39%
- Auto burglary is up 13% compared to the same time last year
- This year, 127 individuals have been arrested for armed robbery. That is up 63% compared to the same period last year (78).
- Arrests for aggravated battery, which includes non-fatal shootings, are down slightly 9% compared to the same period last year (121 vs 134).
- In 2022, 705 individuals have been arrested on illegal gun charges through the end of July. That is up 7% from the same period in 2021.
- In the last week of July alone, 68 guns were taken off the street.
