NOPD Records Lowest Monthly Homicide Total of 2022

In July, NOPD recorded the lowest monthly homicide total of 2022. 

Of the 17 homicides that occurred in the month of July, seven of those were cleared by arrest, warrant, or exception 

  • Aggravated battery is down 3% 
  • Non-fatal shootings are down 12% 
  • Aggravated assault/damage is down 14% 
  • Aggravated rape is down 13% 
  • Robberies are down 17% 
  • Auto theft is down 6% 
  • Homicide is up 38 % 
  • Armed robbery up 39% 
  • Auto burglary is up 13% compared to the same time last year 
  • This year, 127 individuals have been arrested for armed robbery. That is up 63% compared to the same period last year (78). 
  • Arrests for aggravated battery, which includes non-fatal shootings, are down slightly 9% compared to the same period last year (121 vs 134). 
  • In 2022, 705 individuals have been arrested on illegal gun charges through the end of July.  That is up 7% from the same period in 2021.  
  • In the last week of July alone, 68 guns were taken off the street.
