NOPD Investigates Traffic Fatality in Seventh District

Members of the New Orleans Police Department’s Fatality Section are investigating a traffic fatality that left a 39-year-old woman dead, a 5-year-old boy in stable condition, an unknown female in critical condition and a 71-year-old man in stable condition. The incident occurred shortly before 12:50 p.m. in the 2600 block of Paris Road.

According to investigators, the driver of a Toyota Camry was headed northbound on Paris Road and the driver of a dump truck was headed southbound on Paris Road. The driver of the dump truck made a left turn in the direct pathway of the Camry, causing both vehicles to collide. As a result of the impact, the Camry caught on fire.

Emergency Medical Technicians transported the driver of the Camry and her occupants to a local hospital. The 39-year-old woman, identified as the driver, later died at the hospital. The 5-year-old boy is currently listed in stable condition and the unknown female is currently listed in critical condition. The driver of the dump truck was transported to a local hospital via private conveyance and is currently listed in stable condition.

The investigation is ongoing. The Orleans Parish Coroner will conduct an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
