Suspects Identified in Theft, Burglary Incidents in Fourth District Targeting Elderly Victims

The NOPD has obtained arrest warrants for Bessie Costello (pictured at left, DOB: 11-23-1973), Dino Yonko (pictured at center, DOB: 03-28-1974) and Michael John (pictured at right, DOB: 11-23-1989) in connection with several theft and burglary incidents in the Fourth District targeting elderly victims.

In the reported incidents, the wanted subjects are known to convince the victims that something is wrong with their vehicle’s tires. As one subject distracts the victim, the other subject begins to inspect the tire. They then advise the victim that driving with the alleged defunct tire is extremely dangerous to drive on and that they can repair the tire for a fee, ranging from $400 to $500.

The suspects then reportedly follow or escort to the victims to a local ATM machine, or relocate to their residence for payment. Once inside the victim’s residence, one subject will ask to use the restroom while the others distract the victim as they steal valuables from inside the victim's residence.

The subjects are wanted specifically for three incidents in the Fourth District - a theft in which several thousand dollars was stolen from an elderly victim’s safe located inside the victim's residence, a theft in which several thousand dollars worth of jewelry was stolen from inside an elderly victim’s residence and a burglary in which the subjects allegedly entered the victim's residence without permission and stole several thousand dollars in jewelry from the victim’s dresser.

Through investigation, NOPD Fourth District detectives were able to positively identify the suspects in the aforementioned incidents as Costello, Yonko and John and obtained arrest warrants for each.

When located, the suspects will be arrested and charged with simple burglary, theft of assets from aged or disabled persons and exploitation of the infirm.

Citizens who come across these suspects are urged to not stop or engage them in any way, and to call police immediately.

Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of the pictured suspects or information regarding any incidents involving these three suspects is asked to contact Fourth District detectives at 504-658-6040 or call anonymously to Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111 or toll-free at 1-877-903-STOP.
