NOPD Investigating Fatal Vehicle Crash on U S 90 East near Camp Street Exit

The NOPD is investigating a fatal vehicle crash that occurred early Sunday morning (August 20, 2017) on U S 90 East near Camp Street Exit.

At about 5:29 a.m., Traffic Unit officers responded to a call of a vehicle accident at the location. Upon arrival, officers discovered a crash involving two vehicles on U S 90 East bridge.

According to initial investigation, the male driver of a brown 2015 Honda Accord was seen traveling against traffic on U S 90 East passing the Earhart exit. As the Honda approached the Camp Street exit, still driving against traffic, it collided head on with the male driver of a red 2000 Ford Explorer that was traveling eastbound with traffic.

The male driver of the Honda Accord was pronounced dead at the scene as a result of his injuries. The male driver of the Ford Explorer was transported via EMS to an area hospital for treatment and was listed in critical condition.

Blood and alcohol tests are pending and the investigation is ongoing. No further information is available at this time. The Orleans Parish Coroner's Office will determine official cause of death and release the deceased victim's name, upon completion of autopsy.

Traffic Fatality Investigator Danny Ellis is in charge of the ongoing investigation and can be reached at 658-6210 with any information regarding this incident.
