NOPD Arrests Suspect for Gun, Drug Possession Charges

The NOPD on August 2, 2017 arrested Jarrin Rainey (DOB: 09-17-1999) on gun and drug possession charges stemming from a traffic stop at the intersection of Viola Street and Hammond Road.

At about 8:02 p.m., Seventh District officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the location. During the traffic stop, a passenger in the vehicle – later identified as Rainey – exited the vehicle and began to flee on foot. Officers pursued Rainey on foot and apprehended him after a brief pursuit. Upon a search of Rainey’s person, he was found to be in possession of two firearms, one of which was reported stolen from East Baton Rouge Parish, as well as a small amount of marijuana.

Rainey was arrested for two counts of illegal carrying of a weapon and one count each of illegal possession of a stolen firearm and simple possession of marijuana.
