The event, named "Geaux Blue Day", was a collaborative effort by New Orleans residents, businesses and City leaders to bring officers and their families together and show them support in light of recent events happening across the country.

"It shows that I'm appreciated in my profession," said NOPD Officer Khalid Watson. "And it lets my daughters know that people do appreciate what their daddy does for a living and the sacrifices he makes."

The event included free rides, entertainment from Charmaine Neville and Preservation Hall Jazz Band, face painting, the Audubon Nature Institute ZOOMobile and food from Zatarain's, Drago's Seafood, Lucky Dogs, New Orleans Ice Cream Co., Domino's Pizza and Quintin's Ice Cream

Additional sponsors included: the New Orleans City Council, NOPD Officer Assistance Program, New Orleans Police & Justice Foundation, COPS8, the New Orleans Museum of Art, the Nationail WW2 Museum and Crimestoppers of Greater New Orleans
