The NOPD Traffic Division has issued its weekly community enforcement activity report, covering the week of April 19-26, 2026.
The following statistics were compiled by the Traffic Division for the listed period and year to date:
- Eight crashes investigated year to date, a 90-percent decrease from 88 crashes investigated during the same period in 2025.
- 739 calls for service year to date, a 22-percent increase from 601 calls for service investigated during the same period in 2025.
- 115 on-scene arrests during the week and 1,302 on-scene arrests made year to date, a 32-percent decrease from 1,933 arrests during the same period in 2025.
- 14 DWI arrests during the week and 123 DWI arrests made year to date, a 7-percent increase from 114 arrests during the same period in 2025.
- 11 fatal crashes year to date and 11 deaths from these crashes, a 38-percent decrease from 18 fatal crashes and 18 deaths during the same period in 2025.
- Three crashes involving police vehicles during the week and 61 crashes involving police vehicles year to date, a 15-percent decrease from 72 crashes involving police vehicles during the same period in 2025.
- One officer-at-fault crash incident during the week and 25 officer-at-fault crash incidents year to date, a 34-percent decrease from 38 officer-at-fault crash incidents during the same period in 2025.
- One narcotics-related arrest year to date, a 100-percent increase from zero narcotics-related arrests during the same period in 2025.
- 15 misdemeanor arrests year to date, an 87-percent increase from eight misdemeanor arrests during the same period in 2025.
- 59 municipal traffic arrests made year to date, a 391-percent increase from 12 municipal traffic arrests during the same period in 2025.
- 15 vehicle stops made during the week and 2,135 vehicle stops made year to date, a 108-percent increase from 1,022 vehicle stops made during the same period in 2025.
- 61 total citations issued for the week and 11,371 total citations issued year to date, a 122-percent increase from 5,104 total citations issued during the same period in 2025.
- 151 total Louisiana Highway Safety Commission-related citations issued for the week and 1,117 LHSC-related citations issued year to date, a 204-percent increase from 367 LHSC-related citations during the same period in 2025.
- Two DWI checkpoints operated year to date, no change from two such checkpoints operated during the same period in 2025.
- 15 city-roll escorts completed year to date, no change from 15 such escorts completed during the same period in 2025.
Fatal crash incidents
As of April 25, 2026, the NOPD Traffic Division has handled 11 fatal crash incidents, resulting in 11 deaths. This is a 38-percent decrease in crashes and deaths from the same period in 2025. These incidents include:
- One incident involving a motor vehicle (non-motorcycle) striking a fixed object
- Two incidents involving a collision between a motor vehicle and a motorcycle.
- Five incidents involving a collision between a motor vehicle and a pedestrian
- One incident involving a collision between a motor vehicle (non-motorcycle) and a bicycle
- One incident involving a collision between a motor vehicle (non-motorcycle) vs. motor vehicle (non-motorcycle)
- One incident involving a motorcycle striking a pedestrian
Hit and run incidents
The NOPD Traffic Division investigated 1,739 hit-and-run incidents as of April 23, 2026. A monthly breakdown is as follows:
January 2026: 337 incidents
February 2026: 548 incidents
March 2026: 500 incidents
April 2026 (as of April 23): 354 incidents
Additional enforcement
NOPD’s Traffic Division conducted a DWI saturation patrol on April 22, 2026, in the Seventh District. This patrol resulted in seven state arrests, 143 citations issued, 53 vehicle stops, one vehicle tow and three notices of insurance violations. Among those arrested include:
- Keetron Tillman (black male, DOB: 11-30-2007), arrested in relation to a September 2021 armed robbery incident in the 4700 block of Baronne Street. Tillman was arrested and booked on one count each of armed robbery, attempted carjacking and simple carjacking.
- A 17-year-old juvenile black male, arrested in relation to a November 2025 simple assault incident in the 5500 block of Read Boulevard. The juvenile was arrested on one count of simple assault. As the suspect is a juvenile, his name will not be released.
- Brandon Hickey (black male, DOB: 08-01-1989), arrested in relation to an April 2026 aggravated assault incident in the 3900 block of Downman Road. Hickey was arrested and booked on one count each of aggravated assault and damage to property.
- An 18-year-old black male, arrested in relation to an October 2023 incident regarding threats made at a school. Day was arrested and booked on one count each of interfering with school operations, disturbing the peace and threats. As the offense occurred while the suspect was a juvenile, his name will not be released.
All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
