New Orleans – The New Orleans Police Department is investigating a homicide that occurred at the intersection of North Claiborne Avenue and Desire Street.
At approximately 5:01 p.m., Fifth District officers responded to calls reporting an auto accident and shots fired in the area. Upon arrival, officers located a 41-year-old Hispanic male inside one of the involved vehicles suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the head. Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and transported the victim to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The driver of the second vehicle involved in the incident fled the scene prior to officers’ arrival.
The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office will release the identity of the victim once notification has been made to the family and will determine the official cause of death following an autopsy.
The investigation remains ongoing.
