NOPD Investigating Fatal Hit-and-Run Crash in Third District

NOPD Investigating Fatal Hit-and-Run Crash in Third District

The NOPD is investigating a fatal hit-and-run crash that occurred this morning (April 2, 2026) in the 4900 block of Chef Menteur Highway, in the Third District.

Just before 7:30 a.m., NOPD Third District officers responded to a call of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle at the location. Upon arrival, officers located an adult female subject lying in the roadway. The victim was subsequently transported via EMS to a local hospital, where she was declared deceased.

Through investigation, it was determined that the victim was walking across the westbound lanes of Chef Menteur Highway when an unknown vehicle traveling in the far left westbound lane struck the victim. The vehicle continued traveling westbound and did not stop to assist.

The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office will identify the victim upon completion of autopsy and notification of family.

Investigation into the incident is ongoing. No further details are currently available.
