Royal Street Pedestrian Corridor to Reopen

The NOPD will be recreating a pedestrian corridor along Royal Street in the Eighth District.

Beginning on Monday April 25, 2022, the area of Royal Street between the northern curb of Bienville Street to the southern curb of Orleans will be closed to vehicular traffic.

The closure will be in effect Monday through Friday between the hours of 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

On Saturdays and Sundays, the closure will be in effect between the hours of 11 a.m. and 7 p.m.

Prior to this announcement, NOPD contacted business owners and residents in the affected area to inform them that this change was coming.

Businesses in the area will need to make accommodations regarding delivery logistics during these times.

This area of Royal Street was reopened to vehicular traffic in April 2021 to ease traffic congestion in the area due to the collapse of the Hard Rock hotel.

Anyone with questions or concerns is asked to contact the Eighth District at 504-658-6080 or attend a regularly scheduled MAX meeting.
