NOPD Arrests Suspect in Fourth District Aggravated Assault

The NOPD has arrested Wardell Claverie (pictured, DOB: 09-14-1999) in the investigation of an aggravated assault with a firearm that occurred on March 15, 2020 in the 1600 block of River Oaks Drive.

Through investigation, NOPD Fourth District detectives positively identified Claverie as the perpetrator who, at about 5:48 p.m., arrived at the victims’ residence in the 1600 block of River Oaks Drive. While seated inside a vehicle, Claverie is alleged to have brandished a handgun, pointed the weapon at one victim and verbally threatened to shoot the victim. Claverie is then believed to have proceeded to driven forward, where he encountered a second victim and allegedly pointed the handgun at the person and threatened to kill Victim 2. Additionally, Claverie is also believed to have verbally threatened to kill a third victim during a phone conversation.

Claverie was located on April 28 in Jefferson Parish, where he was arrested. He was then transferred to Orleans Parish, where he was booked on two counts of aggravated assault with a firearm and simple assault. A handgun was located during a search of his residence.
