Traffic Stop Leads to Stolen Guns, Property, Ammunition & Drugs

NOPD Sixth District General Assignment officers recently arrested two subjects during a traffic stop and confiscated five guns, including a stolen law enforcement gun.

The incident happened on April 19, 2017.  At around 7:24 p.m., NOPD officers Randy Walton and Johnathon McCarvy conducted a traffic stop at the intersection of First and Willow Streets on a dark colored sedan. While initiating the traffic stop, the officers observed the passenger of the vehicle frantically moving inside the vehicle as if he was trying to conceal objects underneath him.  Upon coming into contact with the driver of the vehicle, Beasley, the officers could sense an intense, distinct odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle.

While outside of the vehicle, officers observed the handle of a firearm sticking out from underneath the driver's seat, and an open orange backpack containing a large bag of vegetable matter on the driver's side in the back seat. Both Beasley and Johnson were arrested without incident.

As officers searched the vehicle, they retrieved the Glock Model 27 fully loaded, the backpack that contained bags of marijuana, an extended magazine containing 25 rounds of .40 caliber ammunition, two rounds of .40-caliber ammunition and one round of 9mm ammunition. They also found a stolen NOPD Glock model 22 fully loaded in a black plastic bag on the passenger side floor board. This gun was reported stolen the same day it was recovered.  Underneath the passenger seat, officers also discovered a Taurus Millennium g2 containing 12 rounds of 9mm ammunition along with a baseball size plastic bag containing vegetable matter and two additional boxes of .50 caliber ammunition.

Throughout the course of the investigation, Second District officers obtained a search warrant on April 20, 2017 for Diamonté Beasley in the 3700 block of Duplessis Street.  While in the home, officers discovered items from a burglary reported on April 18, 2017. They also located two additional firearms including one stolen from residential burglary that occurred on April 17, 2017.
