The New Orleans Police Department today announced that citywide violent crime to include homicides, nonfatal shootings, carjackings, and armed robberies combined; have fallen 70 percent since 2022, comparing the first six months of each year.

The NOPD today (July 23, 2026), with the assistance of the Violent Offender Warrant Squad, U.S. Marshals and the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office, arrested Dennis Stewart (black male, DOB: 01-30-2005) in its investigation of a homicide that occurred on July 8, 2026, in the 4700 block of Laine Avenue.

Fatal crashes and overall traffic crashes continue to decrease in the city of New Orleans underscoring the commitment to public safety through the directed traffic patrols by the NOPD's Traffic Division.

The NOPD has arrested Robert A. Shavers (pictured, black male, DOB: 03-17-1979) in its investigation of multiple business burglaries that have occurred in the Fifth District within the past three months.

The NOPD today (July 15, 2026) announced the arrest of four suspects in its ongoing investigation of a homicide that occurred on March 23, 2026, at the intersection of Socrates Street and Brooklyn Avenue, in the Fourth District.
