NOPD Fifth District Officer James Roberson had only hours earlier been part of a training held by New Orleans EMS for officers who volunteered to learn how to deploy naloxone, known commonly as Narcan, to help block the effects of opioids, particularly in overdose situations.
However, while en route to respond to an unrelated call, his newfound knowledge would be put to the test when a citizen flagged he and his fellow officers down requesting help for a friend who was overdosing on heroine.
