On September 20, 2023, the NOPD arrested Bryan C. Mitchell Sr. (black male, DOB: 03-02-1988) in the investigation of a fatal hit-and-run crash that occurred on September 19, 2023, at the intersection of Franklin and Filmore avenues.

At about 3:30 p.m. on September 20, NOPD Traffic Fatality Unit investigators were notified that a vehicle matching the description of the suspect vehicle in this incident was located disabled along Interstate 10 East near the Crowder Boulevard exit, with two subjects working to replace a flat tire. NOPD Seventh District officers arrived at the scene and detained the subjects. The vehicle was confirmed to be the perpetrator vehicle from the fatal hit-and-run incident and the driver, identified as Mitchell, matched a description given of the driver in the incident.

Both subjects were transported to NOPD Special Operations Division for questioning, during which time Mitchell reportedly confessed to the incident. Additionally, the perpetrator vehicle was found to have been reported stolen.

Mitchell was transported to and booked into the Orleans Parish Justice Center on one count each of hit-and-run driving resulting in death and for possession of a stolen vehicle. In addition, Mitchell was arrested on multiple fugitive warrants.

 All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
