Free health screenings, family-friendly activities & community resources available at Joe Brown Park Victory Stadium
From the Audubon Institute of New Orleans to the New Orleans East Library dozens of local businesses, community organizations and non-profits are teaming up with the NOPD tomorrow (Oct. 17) to host the 2017 National Night Out Against Crime kick-off event. It’s all happening from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Joe W. Brown Victory Field at 5601 Read Blvd. The event is free and open to the public.

The kick-off will connect residents to local resources like free health screenings, job opportunities and to the men and women in law enforcement who work in the New Orleans East neighborhood every day.
Health & Wellness
LSU Health & Sciences Center and New Orleans East Hospital will be on site providing:
- Free Blood pressure test
- Free Glucose tests
- Activities like hula hoops, jump ropes, soft nerf balls and hopscotch
- Information on health nutrition and education with healthy snacks

Free food and beverages will be provided thanks to donations from Domino’s Pizza, Coca-Cola, Raising Cane’s and NORD.

The following organizations will provide family-friendly activities throughout the night:
- Audubon Nature Institute will have its Wetland Express on-hand with animals for children to interact with;
- Ashe Cultural Arts Center will lead a drum circle;
- NORD will provide spacewalks;
- Kicks NOLA will host soccer games;
- Youth Run NOLA will host relay races and
- New Orleans Saints mascot Gumbo will be available for photos.

In addition to the kick-off event, close to 200 neighborhood events are expected to take place across the city.
Residents, businesses and organizations can register their parties for free with the NOPD online at http://nola.gov/nopd/night-out/. Chief Harrison and the NOPD Commanders for each district will be moving between events throughout the night, reaching out to the community and thanking them for their support.
