NOPD Starts Class of 33 Recruits Monday

The NOPD kicked off training today (Oct. 31) for its newest recruit class with a total of 33 recruits at the Training Academy. The recruits will undergo training eight hours a day, Monday through Friday, for a total of 26 weeks. Class #178 is the third class to launch in 2016.

Among the 33 recruits:

  • 8 recruits are U.S. military veterans;
  • 16 recruits have Associate’s Degrees or higher; and
  • 11 recruits are joining the NOPD from out of state, including recruits from California, Illinois, Kentucky, Mississippi, Massachusetts, Florida, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Nebraska and New York

Training is already underway for Class #177 which is expected to graduate later this year. Today’s newest recruit class follows the graduation of Class #176, which happened on Friday (Oct. 28). The NOPD is funded ot hire 160 new police officers this year.
