NOPD Investigating Homicide in Sixth District

NOPD Investigating Homicide in Sixth District

The NOPD is investigating a homicide that occurred Tuesday (November 7, 2023) in the 2900 block of Louisiana Avenue that left one person dead, and another injured.

At about 8:40 p.m., NOPD Sixth District detectives responded to a call of a shot person at the location. Upon arrival, officers discovered a 49-year-old black male suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. EMS arrived on scene and transported the victim to a local hospital where he later expired.   

A second victim, a 44-year black male, was located in the 3400 block of Willow and transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Investigators are currently in the process of gathering evidence and information to identify the person(s) responsible for this incident, as well as a motive. 

The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office will identify the victim and official cause of death upon completion of autopsy and notification of family. No additional information is currently available.

Homicide Detective Joseph Herman is the lead detective in this ongoing investigation.
